WORKSHOP: Sketching Yoga Sequences

In this workshop you’ll learn a system for drawing yoga postures with a few simple strokes. It’s easy and fun to learn, even if you have no drawing or sketching skills.

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is for anybody who is studying, practicing or teaching yoga and who wants to be able to take simple visual notes for their practice, classes or training course.

For Yoga Practitioners

If you practice yoga, you can sketch out your favourite sequences from class, videos or yoga magazines to use as a guide during your home practice or for when you are travelling. A sketched overview is a perfect cheat sheet to keep by your mat during your own practice.

For Yoga Teachers

If you teach yoga classes or work with your own private clients, sketching is a great way to plan your classes or create practice plans in a visual way. You can use them as a visual overview during class and they also make great handouts for your students after a workshop or as personalised practice plans for your one-on-one clients.

For Teacher Trainees

When you are learning to be a yoga teacher there is a lot of information to process. Using sketches to capture the details about postures, alignment and anatomy will help you to get the most out of your training. What will we do in the workshop?

What are we going to do in the workshop?

We’ll draw together!

We’ll learn step by step how to put together all kinds of yoga poses using a hand full of simple shapes like lines, rectangles, triangles and circles. We’ll go through a few basic principles of sketching yoga stick figures that will help us to get the proportions, perspective, structure and level of detail right.

We’ll practice sketching different asanas from all main asana groups. We’ll learn how to put several postures into a sequence and how to add movement, alignment details and other instructions to our sketch.

The workshop is a hands-on drawing practice. Even if you have no drawing experience (or even feel like you have no artistic talent at all) the workshop will be right for you: we will start slowly and build our skills systematically step-by-step.

Sketching yoga sequences is a bit like learning how to write: We’ll start with the basic shapes (the ‘letters’), put them together to make asanas (the ‘words’) and join them into a whole sequence (a ‘sentence’ or even a whole story). It might feel a bit awkward in the beginning, but with a little bit of practice you’ll soon write your own sequences with ease.

The workshop is taught by Eva-Lotta Lamm
